Scattered Bliss

I love to look at the traditional quilts, but I really have no personal desire to make a quilt using those patterns.  So, all but one of the quilts I've made have been my own design and are all pretty simple.  This baby quilt is my favorite so far!  I started with a jelly roll of Bliss by Moda.  I LOVE this line of fabric.  I've even made Emma an outfit with it (that outfit can be found in this post).  I designed the quilt on a piece of graph paper and took it from there.  It was so satisfying to watch what I could see in my mind come to life in front of me.   I used just a third of the jelly roll and plan on designing two more baby quilts using the rest of it.

Aren't the colors amazing?

This was also my first attempt at stippling (or free motion) quilting.
All of my past quilts have been quilted with straight lines, usually using the masking tape method.

I felt that this one needed something more ~ and it wasn't so bad after I got the hang of it.
Now, if anyone has an extra long arm quilting machine sitting in storage that they'd like to get off of their hands for cheap, please give me a call!  I can't imagine stippling anything larger than a baby blanket on my little sewing machine.

(The photos found below were added on 9/12/11, after the quilt was washed.  I waited on pins and needles while it was in the washing machine, hoping that the red stayed where it was supposed to and didn't bleed onto the white.  I threw a Shout Color Catcher in and it washed beautifully.  I didn't wash my fabric before making the quilt, so it puckered up quite nicely after being in the dryer.  I love the texture it adds to the quilt.)
